The Alcazar night watchman discovered what seemed to be a small fire on the fourth floor of the casino. He and the porter tried to put out the blaze themselves. The ceiling caved in showing a more extensive fire and the fire company called out. Jacksonville fire companies were called to assist. The fire was confined to the fourth floor and rest of the building saved.
