Jan. 21, 1764 Spanish evacuation complete

Beginning in August 1763, Spanish ships sailed from St. Augustine nearly every day with cargoes of emigrants and their valued possessions. Aboard the last ship out were the governor and his closest advisers, the parish priest and the last of the 3,500 Spaniards, Floridians, Indians, free African Americans and other Spanish subjects who had resided in St. Augustine in the days before it became a British colony.
