More than 125 people gathered Sept. 20 in the Al Wilkie Field in Hastings to celebrate International Day of Peace.
The fourth installment of Peace in the Park, the event included games and activities promoting peace and compassion.
The event was sponsored by Pie in the Sky, a local grassroots nonprofit organization that provides “fill in the crack” services to individuals and families in need.
Three years ago, the St. Augustine Initiative for Peace, Unity and Peace St. Augustine, St. Johns County Health and Human Services and the Hastings Branch Library joined Pie in the Sky to create Peace in the Park.
“This is a wonderful event that helps bring together a very diverse community in a celebration of peace and unity,” said Pie in the Sky director Malea Guiriba.
Lonesome Bert and the Skinny Lizards along with Buffalo Munn and the Blue Lotus Belly Dancers provided entertainment for the day.
Other activities included the making of Stone Soup, pinwheels for peace, a tai chi demonstration and compassion games.
The human peace sign was photographed from the air by Walter Coker.
