It has been six months since the Barenaked Ladies rocked the St. Augustine Amphitheatre and they’re already planning their return trip.

The Barenaked Ladies return to the Amphitheatre, with special guests Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and Howard Jones, in support of their new album “Silverball” July 2.

“I think it would be fair to say if the band was collectively known as Stella, then this record would indicate the reality that Stella had indeed got her groove back.” states Ed Robertson of Toronto’s Barenaked Ladies.

After 27 years together, over 14 million albums sold, multiple Juno Awards and GRAMMY nominations, “Silverball,” the cerebral band’s 14th album finds the long-standing partnership of Ed Robertson (guitar, vocals), Jim Creeggan (bass, vocals), Kevin Hearn (keyboard, guitar, vocals) and Tyler Stewart (drums, vocals) firing on all cylinders. In Robertson’s view, “Silverball” has already attained a lofty status in the band’s canon, for reasons that are fundamental and enduring.

“I think the strength of this record is the band playing together,” he says. “We’re pushing in new directions — as always, I think — but it’s still unmistakably these four guys playing together, and that’s what I’m most proud of. I put the record on and it doesn’t sound like anything we’ve ever done before, and yet it is unmistakably the new Barenaked Ladies record. We made it quickly and effortlessly, and I think it’s a great showcase of what this band is capable of.”

ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK

After a brief period of touring in the late 70s, notably as support for Gary Numan, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark quickly established themselves with a number of classic singles. “Messages”, with its simple but engaging melody, managed to get the band into the public eye in 1980 by reaching No. 13 in the UK charts. Later the same year they made the UK Top Ten and scored their first international hit (5 million sales) with the dance pop of “Enola Gay”. The success in 1980 helped the group rapidly become one of the UK’s premier pop acts. OMD’s 1981 album, the ethereal “Architecture & Morality” produced three classic singles: “Souvenir” with its bittersweet vocal, the religiously inspired “Joan Of Arc” and its epic follow-up “Maid Of Orleans”. All three singles secured a top-5 chart position and by 1982 had turned OMD into household names. With a new album on the way and more live performances scheduled for the future, OMD continue to delight and entertain audiences globally.

Howard Jones

It was in 1983 that Howard Jones first entered the music scene with his very English songwriting, pioneering synthesizers and thought-provoking lyrics. He set out his manifesto in his very first single “New Song”. The lyrics called on the listener to challenge their preconceived ideas, to see both sides and throw off their mental chains. “New Song” was recently used in a pivotal scene in “Breaking Bad” where Aaron Paul’s character, Jessie Pinkman, questions if he wants to play by the rules. “New Song” peaked at number 3 in the UK singles charts.

Along with “New Song”, The first two albums, “Human’s Lib” and “Dream Into Action,” brought Howard a host of hits including “Things Can Only Get Better,” “What is Love?,” “Pearl In The Shell,” “Like to Get To know You Well,” “Hide And Seek” (performed at Live Aid), “Look Mama” and “No One Is To Blame,” which reached No.1 in the U.S.

Howard has sold over 8 million albums across the globe.
